Washington Nationals Rockies

Not bad. The Mayweather-Mosley PPV bout sold 1.4 million buys, which ties it with De la Hoya-Trinidad for the second-highest number of PPV buys for a non-heavyweight event . . .
Gotta give the Mets credit. Just when it looked as if they were prepared to lose their third straight, they erase a 6-1 deficit to beat the Washington Nationals 8-6. The two teams are now tied again for second place in the NL East . . . Mets pitcher John Maine finds himself atop the leader board in one pitching category, albeit an unwanted one: Most Homers Surrendered. Maine's back-to-back gopher balls served to Adam Kennedy and Ryan Zimmerman on Monday night catapulted into a tie with Ervin Santana for most in MLB . . .
I don't know about you, but I detest "Granny" politicians. Granny politicians are those elected representatives who believe they have the right to dictate how we the electorate should live. NY Mayor Mike Bloomberg's crusade to ban the use of trans fats in restaurants is a good example of this. The latest form of Granny government in NY comes courtesy of NYC Councilmen Oliver Koppell and Lewis Fidler, who want to legislate pitch counts for high school baseball teams. That's right. Forget about unemployment. Forget that NY State Governor David Patterson just announced that state employees will be mandated to take an unpaid furlough day next week. Forget that a terrorist came very close to detonating a bomb in Times Square. What Koppell and Fidler consider important is whether a high school pitcher's arm is overworked. Monroe High School Baseball Coach Mike Turo puts it best when he asks, "Basically, who are these guys to tell me how to run my ballclub?" Councilmen Tweedledee and Tweedledum should spend their time focusing on more important issues--such as whether the hot dogs sold at PSAL games contain trans fats . . .
Don't look now, but the Red Sox are 7-3 in their last 10 games . . .
How can a team as talented as the Seattle Mariners be six games under .500 and 2-8 in their last 10 games? . . .
Prior to Opening Day I predicted that Philadelphia Phillies C Carlos Ruiz would have a breakout season. Granted it is only six weeks into the season; nevertheless, Ruiz is justifying my confidence. As of today Ruiz has the third highest batting average in the NL at .354 . . .
Colorado Rockies P Ubaldo Hernandez has started seven games and pitched 48.1 innings--and his ERA is still under 1.00 (0.93) . . .
The Yankees and the Rays both have more than 20 wins; yet only two players from these two teams (Robinson Cano and Evan Longoria) are in the American League's top-5 in any one the following offensive categories: Batting Average (Cano), Home Runs, and RBIs (Longoria) . . .
