After the unexpected deadly flooding that wreaked havoc in Nashville, Tenn., the power couple pushed to organize a benefit show for flood relief. The event will raise money for those families who were displaced by the natural disaster, as McGraw helps lift spirits with continued promotions of his latest studio album Southern Voice. "The damage that we've seen to people's homes and the effect that the flooding has had on their lives is unimaginable," McGraw and Hill said in a statement. "We all need to continue to support those in need in any way that we can, and for that reason we could not be more appreciative to all of the artists, the companies and the people behind the scenes who collectively will make June 22 a truly special night." The funds raised during the benefit concert, reports LiveDaily.com, will go toward the Community Foundation of Middle Tennessee and Emergency Response Fund. As just one of many country stars hurt by the several feet of rain water that condemned both homes and historical buildings, McGraw is helping not just with his benefit concert but also with his tunes.
Even with six full months of tour dates, McGraw remains a prominent country figure – and not just because of his philanthropic endeavors. McGraw, along with Brad Paisley and the Zac Brown Band, are the latest acts to be tapped for the 2010 CMT Music Awards set to air this June. Performing at the same Nashville venue as his benefit concert, the June 9 ceremony is airing between his dates in Devore, Calif. and Wichita, Kan. The fan voted awards show will be hosted by Kid Rock this year and will feature a slew of live performances while artists also act in support of CMT's own flood relief efforts.
Still supporting his 16th studio album Southern Voice, McGraw has been in and around North America since February and will keep touring through August. Visiting cities like Phoenix, San Diego, Dallas, Cincinnati, Chicago, Kansas City, Salt Lake City, Toronto and others, he closes out in Virginia Beach's Verizon Wireless Amphitheater Aug. 15. But the veteran performer won't be done come August – with just a few weeks off he'll do something for the first time in his lengthy career – tour Australia.
This May, McGraw along with Chugg Entertainment and Rob Potts, announced that McGraw's tour would visit Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane and North Queensland this September. Headlining with his band the Dancehall Doctors, McGraw couldn't contain his excitement. "My career's been going for a while and I've been looking for opportunities to come down [to Australia], and this is the first time the timing's worked out," he said on his website.
