Rodney Carrington first began making the rounds on the standup circuit in the 1990s, and the Longview, Texas native released his major-label debut album, Hangin' with Rodney, in 1998. Hangin' with Rodney spawned hilarious hit tracks like "Letter to My Penis" and "Fred" and managed to sell 475,000 copies-not bad for his first try! Carrington continued his rise to fame in the comedy world with the release of a live album and the wildly popular album Morning Wood. Carrington has continued to churn out hit albums, such as 2003's Nut Sac (which peaked at No. 14 on Billboard's Top Country Albums chart) and 2007's King of the Mountains (which peaked at No. 15 on the same Billboard chart) while straddling the worlds of country and comedy.
Carrington's most recent album is Make It Christmas. The holiday effort arrived in October 2009 and featured renditions of classic holiday tunes like "Oh Holy Night" and "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas." Although Make It Christmas was another success for Carrington, he remains known for his signature brand of music-meets-comedy, such as the predecessor to Make It Christmas, El Nino Loco. Carrington's eighth album, El Nino Loco climbed Billboard's Top Comedy Albums chart to the No. 3 spot.
On his official website, Carrington described the album, which was produced by Keith and Steve Dorff and released via Capitol Nashville, as "a way to write novelty songs that could potentially get played on the radio and also made music videos."
According to Nielsen SoundScan, Carrington has sold over two million albums in his career-and that figure is sure to grow in the future! Carrington's 2000 album Morning Wood is his best-selling album to date, moving 517,000 copies. Aside from releasing albums and touring, Carrington has also enjoyed success of the small and big screens. His ABC sitcom Rodney aired for two seasons but is still available on DVD for fans who missed the show.
Carrington also appeared alongside country singer Toby Keith in the 2008 movie Beer for My Horses, which he co-wrote with Keith. Toby Keith isn't the only country star who is a fan of Carrington's work, however, as he appeared in the video for Trace Adkins' 2007 single "I Got My Game On" as well.
Although fans are happy to see Rodney Carrington on tour-his shows have sold out around the nation-rumor has it that the talented Texas is currently working on his next one-hour comedy special, slated to arrive in late fall 2010. According to The City Wire in Fort Smith, Ark. (where Carrington performed in front of a packed house on March 12), Carrington is also in the midst of developing a sketch comedy special as well.
