All About The Indians Team And Its Fascinating History
In baseball, the history of the Cleveland Indians, is highly interesting and enticing for the fans of this historical sports franchise. Professional baseball in Cleveland pre-dates the founding of the American League. Cleveland had teams in the National Association, early National League, and American Association before the Cleveland Spiders become a member the National League in 1889. One of the famous pitchers and victorios pitchers in the history of baseball was the Indian's pitcher Luis Tiant Tiant became a success as soon as he put on an Indians uniform. He arrived in the summer of '64, won 10 games and went on to put together the foundation of a 19-year career. However, Tiant, whom fans in Cleveland lovingly called "El Tiante," was more than a pitcher. He was a performer, dazzling fans and baffling hitters with a pitching motion as deceptive as any in the team history. It was that kind of first place excellence that gained Tiant selection to the list of "100 Greatest Indians." But, he is still loved clearly for the reason that his pitching excellence was matched by his character and willful perseverance.
It's no big surprise that a lot of folks, whether Indians fans or not, are attracted in the rich and colorful Cleveland Indians team history. This was the first team in franchise history that hired the first black manager (Frank Robinson who managed from 1975-1977) in major league baseball. Did you know that in 1920, Jim Bagby of the Cleveland Indians was the first pitcher to strike a home run in the World Series? As of the start of the 2007 playoffs, Cleveland has played in 5 World Series: 1920, 1948, 1954, 1995, and 1997. They won the World Series in 1920 and 1948. The longest winning streak in Indians history was 13 games, and this was reached twice (August 1-15, 1951 and April 18-May 2, 1942.) Why do people really like baseball and the Indians do much? Well, the Cleveland Indians Owner Bill Veeck puts it best "Baseball is almost the only orderly thing in a very unorderly world. If you get three strikes, even the best lawyer in the world can't get you off."
