One of the hottest musicals to hit Broadway over the last few years in Jersey Boys. It is a superb show, and one that will entertain the family. It is bright, cheerful and a large amount of fun. The musical's focus is The Four Seasons' lead vocalist, Frankie Valli. However, it's his interaction with Tommy DeVito, the group's original creative force, and song composer, Bobby Gaudio, that makes the group's story so compelling.
You will be left breathless by the telling of the story, which is done through an effective mix of both spoken word and song, and plenty of hoarious jokes. You can pick up some fascinating trivialities about the group, for example which current Hollywood star basically introduced 2 key members of the group, how "Sherry," the group's first huge hit came into being, and which very superstar galvanized the song "Big Girls Don't Cry." do you aware the group struggled with the music world to record a song that was to turned into one of Frankie Valli's largest solo hits from the late 1960s? Plenty of their songs and other preferred songs of the era are performed in the show.
Without giving away the story, I must say that if those four guys hadn't ended up stars, they could have ended up in large-scale crime, in prison or worse. Jersey Boys gives an insight into how town kids grew up in the 1950s and 1960s and what it was like to smash into the rock and roll business in those days. Whether you grew up in Jersey Boys New York or New Jersey in those days or wonder what it must have been like, you'll be wanting to see this show. It's totally terrific.
The musical is loosely based on a very entertaining book by Marshall Brickman and Rick Elice and premiered at the LaJolla Theatre in LaJolla, California.The show is playing all over the world including Broadway, Chicago, London, Melbourne and Toronto to cite a few. Jersey Boys won the Tony Award in 2006 for best musical, and has been a favorite for theater goers since it's release. It has not quite been as popular as the incredible Wicked.
