Seattle Mariners Tickets For A Day At Safeco Field

This young ball club is one of the most recent newcomers to the American League and Western Division of the Major League Baseball Association. Established in 1977 and represented by the colors navy blue, northwest green and metallic silver, the Seattle Mariners may be young but have already started to make waves in the MLB circuit with some very noteworthy best finishes. In 1995, they won the division series by defeating the New York Yankees. In 2000, the won Wild Card berth title by putting a hurting on the Chicago White Sox. In 2001, they took home the West Division title by beating the Cleveland Indians. The team also won the West Division title in 1997.

Nicknamed "The M's", these determined players are not in possession of any World Series titles or American League Pennants yet but their team is young. The Seattle Mariners came into existence after a lawsuit in the 1970 when the Seattle Pilots were purchased and relocated to Milwaukee. The first game the Seattle Mariners played was before 57,762 fans in a sold out crowd. Although they lost the opening game to the California Angels 7-0, in less than a week on April 10, 1977, Juan Bernhardt hit the first home run in the team's history.

Even for a youthful team, the Seattle Mariners have a few names in the Baseball Hall of Fame already. Honorees include Gaylord Perry, Rich "Gooses" Gossage, Dick Williams and Rickey Henderson. The Seattle Mariners Hall of Fame includes Dave Niehause (Broadcaster), Alvin Davis, Jay Buhner and Edgar Martinez. Undoubtedly more names will be added to both of these halls as this team continues to mature and grow. Because their team is still young, the Seattle Mariners have not retired any of their numbers yet. The team mascot, Mariner Moose has worn 00 so it is off limits. Originally the mascot wore the current season's last 2 digits of that year.

Peculiar to the Seattle Mariners is the tradition of "Rally Fries" which comes from a fan who spilled fries on the tract trying to catch a pop foul. Mike Blowers had a plate of fries sent to the fan and a tradition was begun. Fans started appearing at games with signs asking for the "Rally Fries" from Ivar's, a seafood restaurant in Seattle. A home game treat that fans have come to enjoy, Blowers chooses fans who are carrying amusing signs or wearing eye catching clothes and gives them the fries for free.

Some great season records set by the Seattle Mariners thus far include a .372 by Ichiro for highest batting average in 2004, 141 runs by Alex Rodriguez in 1996, .674% highest slugging average by Ken Griffey Jr. in 1994, 4 grand slams by Edgar Martinez in 2000, 60 stolen bases by Harold Reynolds in 1987 308 strikeouts by Randy Johnson in 1993 and 45 saves by Kazuhiro Sasaki in 2001.

Safeco Field, located at 1516 First Avenue S in Seattle, Washington has been the home of the Seattle Mariners since opening in 1999. The playing surface is a combination of Kentucky bluegrass and Perennial Ryegrass blend and the venue has a seating capacity of 47,116 for baseball games and 30,144 for football games.
