New York Giants Tickets- Tyree Placed on IR
Who can forget wide receiver David Tyree's amazing catch during last year's Super Bowl that helped seal the win for the New York Giants. Well, if the Giants are to make a repeat trip this year, they will be forced to do so without Tyree. The Giants were forced to put the wide receiver on injured reserve after being on the physically unable to perform list for most of the season because of a knee injury. After trying to get back to practicing, Tyree pulled a hamstring in practice on October 15. The Giants went through every avenue to try to get the 28-yar-old on the field but ended up having to place him on injured reserve.
The Giants could have also released Tyree or put him on the active roster but chose injured reserve instead. By all of his comments, it is apparent that Tyree isn't looking to leave New York any time soon. Tyree has been with the Giants for his entire career since they picked him in the sixth round of the 2003 NFL draft. Before coming to the Giants, Tyree was a two-year starter at Syracuse. In his career, he had 75 receptions for 1,214 yards and six touchdowns. He also had four punt returns and one touchdown off of a punt return. He also had 50 tackles on special teams. He worked his way to starting every game by his senior year.
During his first season with the Giants, Tyree played in all 16 games and started three. As a receiver, he had16 receptions for 211 yards that season. He also managed 17 tackles. The next season, he had 10 receptions for 155 yards and one touchdown as well as 15 tackles. He had the special honor of being chosen for the Pro Bowl in 2005 for his contributions on special Teams. In 2006, he had a career-high 19 receptions for 197 yards and two touchdowns during the regular season. On top of his amazing Super Bowl contribution last season, Tyree tallied four receptions for 35 yards and 12 tackles. He missed a few games during the season because of a wrist fracture and the death of his mother.
At the time of Tyree's placement on injured reserve, the Giants are 7-1. Their only loss came against the Cleveland Browns during week six. They have toppled the Washington Redskins, the St. Louis Rams, the Cincinnati Bengals, the Seattle Seahawks, the San Francisco 49ers, the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Dallas Cowboys. Four of their wins so far have been in a margin of three touchdowns or more. Tyree is the seventh player to be put on injured reserve this season, joining safety Craig Dahl, running back Kay-Jay Harris, defensive end Robert Henderson, tackle Guy Whimper, defensive end Osi Umenyiora and quarterback Anthony Wright. Although the team is dealing with many injuries, they are still standing strong as one of the best teams in the NFC and the league.
