How to Build a Brick Fire Pit?
Everyone loves to treat themselves to some hotdogs sometime or the other and if you are not up to making a trek into the wilderness or to some campsite that is far away from civilization here are a few tips that can help you build a brick fire pit which can also lend an aesthetic appeal to your home. If you decide to start building your own fire pit remember to check the weather since this requires some good sunny days to build.
The materials that are required for your brick pit are:
- Bricks.
- 2x4" pieces.
- Some nails.
- Sand
- Cement (which dries quickly)
- Mortar
- Grill bits
- Water
- Rebar
Some of the tools that you require to build your pit are:
- Trowel
- Shovel.
- Hammer
- Wheel Barrow
- Level
- String.
Find a suitable place where you want to build your brick fire pit; it should be someplace that is away from inflammable things or any trees. Preferably choose a place that is directly under the sky. Dig a pit for 2 to 4 inches, make sure the ground is even and leveled. Use the 2x4" pieces and cut it to the required size since this is going to build your walls of the fire pit. Drilling them together will make the outer circle of the pit; take the quick dry cement and pour into place.
If you want to make your pit stronger you can use the rebar and keep it in the cement; this is especially advised if you are looking at a grid formation and to keep away damage made by frost. Blend in the mortar; make sure the consistency is like whipped cream since too thin or too thick won't do a good job. You can now start with bricking your fire pit by using some mortar on one side of the brick and set one on top of the other. The first brick will need to go near the cement base. Keep adding the bricks with mortar and repeating the process until you have the first row of bricks. Use the level to see if things are even then start on the second row by placing the bricks between two bricks. Repeat the same for the third row until you reach ground level. The grill bits need to be placed in the fire pit since it will give you a few feet of leverage away from the fire. Your brick fire pit is ready to host any number of hot dog parties.
