2010 NFC East: NFL Picks Favor Cowboys
The Dallas Cowboys have opened at online sportsbooks as +130 favorites 2010 NFC East odds to repeat as Division champions. The consistently inconsistent and underachieving New York Giants were the next choice in NFL picks at +250 with last year's runner up, the Philadelphia Eagles at +275 and the Washington Redskins a +500 NFL betting longshot. The Redskins and Eagles made the biggest news in the division over the off season as long time Eagle quarterback Donovan McNabb moved over to the Redskins after 11 years at Philly. It is very rare for players to move to another division rival but it sets up a great story line for the season.
The Redskins hired longtime Denver coach Mike Shanahan as their new head man. Shanahan won 2 Super Bowls with John Elway at Denver but meddling Washington owner Dan Snyder has hired strong big name coaches in the past with no positive results in NFL odds so Shanahan's ability to make a difference will remain a question mark. Speaking of meddling owners, Jerry Jones of Dallas would love nothing more than for his Cowboys to make the Super Bowl that will be played this February at Cowboys Stadium.
Dallas showed signs of improvement last year heading into 2010 NFC East odds but for the Cowboys to make it to the big game in "Jerry's World" they will still need quarterback Tony Romo to take his game to the next level and for coach Wade Phillips to continue to apply the whip in place of his previous nice guy style. Speaking of the whip, Tom Coughlin of the Giants probably has the hottest seat in the division as New York has not lived up to their 2007 Super Bowl level and quarterback Eli Manning has seemed to regress.
