The block of West 55th Street between Fifth and Sixth Avenue has more than a dozen restaurants in all price ranges. Try La Bonne Soup - excellent reasonably priced soups, omelets, burgers, etc (their onion soup is divine).

There is also an interesting Japanese noodle house called Menchenko Tei - clean and the prices are very reasonable.
