Is Jesus the Son of God now Part 1
Written by Bro. Josh Sparks.
There has been many discussions concerning the question, Is Jesus Christ the Son of God right now in Heaven? In order to help those of you who unaware of what we are writing about we will briefly give you an overview of what those who believe He is not teach. I do believe that not only is Jesus God but that he is still the Son of God in heaven. Not the 2nd God in a three God Godhead but the One true God who has revealed Himself as Father in Creation, as the Son to Redeem us and as the Holy Ghost the Spirit of Trruth to make us Holy and live in us nd lead and guide as in all truth.
Those who believe Jesus is not the Son of God in Heaven now presently use this verse to provide proof that what they teach i snot error and it is found in ( Hebrews 2:14) Forasmuch then as the children are partakers of flesh and blood, he also himself likewise took part of the same; that through death he might destroy him that had the power of death, that is, the devil. Now if this is a verse that they use to prove Jesus isnt the Son of God now they have failed miserably in their attempts because this verse is speaking of Jesus incarnation or taking on himself flesh and destroying the devil and his works and plans through His death. This is in no way shape or form declaring Jesus is no longer the Son of God. Also when flesh is used here it literally means flesh and blood which had been corrupted by Adams sin, this Jesus God made flesh was created by God to be inhabited by God as to his humanity.(Luke 1:35) And the angel answered and said unto her, The Holy Ghost shall come upon thee, and the power of the Highest shall overshadow thee: therefore also that holy thing which shall be born of thee shall be called the Son of God. Jesus the Son did not exist as such until Bethlehem. God’s plan to make His word flesh and robe it in flesh in and has always been part of God’s plan before the foundations of the earth were laid.
(Revelation 13:8 ) And all that dwell upon the earth shall worship him, whose names are not written in the book of life of the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world.
Also when the scriptures said Jesus would through death destroy the one who had power over death the devil that word destroy leiterally means to make idle or useless or to bring to nought. This verse in now way shape or form denies that Jesus is still the Son of God and God. We do not believe in two persons in the Godhead. There is only One God (Deuteronomy 6:4) and one only begotten Son (John 3:16) and all the fulness of the Godhead dwells bodily in the person of Jesus Christ (Colossians 1:19; 2:9).
Paul said the understanding of God was a mystery or a spiritual truth hidden from human understanding. When Jesus asked His disciples who people thought He was and who they though he was here is their response. (Matthew 16:13-17) 13When Jesus came into the coasts of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, saying, Whom do men say that I the Son of man am? 14And they said, Some say that thou art John the Baptist: some, Elias; and others, Jeremias, or one of the prophets. 15He saith unto them, But whom say ye that I am? 16And Simon Peter answered and said, Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God. 17And Jesus answered and said unto him, Blessed art thou, Simon Barjona: for flesh and blood hath not revealed it unto thee, but my Father which is in heaven.
Notice what Jesus told Peter when Peter declared thou art the Christ (Messiah the anointed One) the SOn of the Living God? Jesus said flesh and blood has not revealed this to you but my Father and this ws revealed to Peter by the Holy Ghost. Paul when writing about the mystrer of godliness that was without controversy or argument he declared ( 1 Timothy 3:16) And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness: God was manifest in the flesh, justified in the Spirit, seen of angels, preached unto the Gentiles, believed on in the world, received up into glory.
John wrote concerning those who overcome the world system and how it took faith in believing Jesus is the Son of God presently in Heaven. ( 1 John 5:5) Who is he that overcometh the world, but he that believeth that Jesus is the Son of God? Here John the Apostle was writing many years after Jesus ascended to Heaven that it still takes faith in Jesus as the Son of God to overcome the world system and sin.
Is Jesus the Son of God now in Heaven? Yes and those who deny the Son denies the father who sent Him ( 1 John 2:23) Whosoever denieth the Son, the same hath not the Father: he that acknowledgeth the Son hath the Father also. We have shared with you a very brief overview of what these who deny Jesus is the Son of God now believe. This has not covered all they believe and we will do so in the studies we will post in the next few days.
One more point we will make that is false doctrine and as false as the trinity doctrine and the doctrine of the immortality of the soul. The teaching that Jesus did not take His physical flesh and bone body to Heaven when he ascended. Some of these use ( 1 Peter 3: 1 to prove this. ( 1Peter 3: 1 8 ) For Christ also hath once suffered for sins, the just for the unjust, that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh, but quickened by the Spirit. Here we see the scriptures talking about how it was the Holy Ghost that raised Jesus from the dead His physical body and not some phantom flesh or Spirit Body and Jesus Himself refuted this.
( Luke 24: 39) Behold my hands and my feet, that it is I myself: handle me, and see; for a spirit hath not flesh and bones, as ye see me have. After His resurrection Jesus still had flesh and bone and Jesus himself through His Words stops this false teaching that He ascended to Heaven as a phantom but went with a physical flesh and bone body that was immortal which is to say death proof.
I will make one more comment in Part 1 of our study and bring our study to a close. Paul in 1 Corinthians 15 reveals to us the importance of Jesus resurrection because Paul knew if Jesus had just died and shed His blood that without the resurrection from the dead His blood would be powerless but His blood is full of power and was authenticated by His resurrection from the dead.
( 1 Corinthians 15: 1-6; 11-28 ) 1Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; 2By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain. 3For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; 4And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures: 5And that he was seen of Cephas, then of the twelve: 6After that, he was seen of above five hundred brethren at once; of whom the greater part remain unto this present, but some are fallen asleep.
11Therefore whether it were I or they, so we preach, and so ye believed. 12Now if Christ be preached that he rose from the dead, how say some among you that there is no resurrection of the dead? 13But if there be no resurrection of the dead, then is Christ not risen: 14And if Christ be not risen, then is our preaching vain, and your faith is also vain. 15Yea, and we are found false witnesses of God; because we have testified of God that he raised up Christ: whom he raised not up, if so be that the dead rise not. 16For if the dead rise not, then is not Christ raised: 17And if Christ be not raised, your faith is vain; ye are yet in your sins. 18 Then they also which are fallen asleep in Christ are perished. 19If in this life only we have hope in Christ, we are of all men most miserable. 20But now is Christ risen from the dead, and become the firstfruits of them that slept. 21For since by man came death, by man came also the resurrection of the dead. 22For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ shall all be made alive. 23But every man in his own order: Christ the firstfruits; afterward they that are Christ’s at his coming. 24Then cometh the end, when he shall have delivered up the kingdom to God, even the Father; when he shall have put down all rule and all authority and power. 25For he must reign, till he hath put all enemies under his feet. 26The last enemy that shall be destroyed is death. 27For he hath put all things under his feet. But when he saith all things are put under him, it is manifest that he is excepted, which did put all things under him. 28 And when all things shall be subdued unto him, then shall the Son also himself be subject unto him that put all things under him, that God may be all in all.
If Jesus hasnt risen physically from the dead our faith is vain or void and we have faith in empty promises. Those fallen asleep are persihed and Jesus was a phony and we need to look elsewhere if He did not rise physically from the dead. We know He rose from the dead physically and that He will return and raise those sleeping from the dead and those alive and remain until His coming will be raised to immortallity along with those sleeping and we shall be like Jesus in a physical flesh and blood body to never die again but to live forever in immortality.
See our study Why the Resurrection to bertter understand the false doctrine being taught by many that there is no physical resurrection. So many dont understand why we live in these bodies and why there needs to be a resurrection. We will post part 2 of our study Is Jesus the Son of God now in a few days so keep coming back as we will update these posts on a regular basis.
In Jesus Name,
