how is theater seating arranged? pit orch mez loge?
where are the pit the mez the loge and the orch?? im buying tickets and i dont no which r the best and worst ... thanx
It depends on the theater, so if you let us know which theater, we can better answer your question. You might also Google the name of the theater along with the words "seating" and "chart".
The orchestra section is generally the front-most section with the closest seats, but sometimes the seats in the first few rows can be too close for an easy view of the entire stage, especially the front rows on the far left or right. A "pit" is sometimes added in front of the orchestra. Some theaters have a "dress circle" at the rear of the orchestra section on a slightly raised level.
The orchestra section can extend pretty far back, underneath the overhanging "mezzanine" (or "balcony") section, so the front rows of the mezzanine are often closer than the rear row of the orchestra. Some theaters have multiple mezzanines and might call the highest mezzanine the "balcony".
The "loge" (The "O" sounds like the "O" in "low", the "G" like the "S" in "pleasure") is the front section of the lowest mezzanine, often restricted to season ticket holders.
Some theaters have side box seats, tiny sections of 6 to 20 seats, usually available only for VIPs or season ticket holders.
In the US, the highest and rear-most (and usually the cheapest) seats are often referred to as the "nose-bleed" section. In the UK, they're referred to as "the gods". If that's the best you can get, you might want to ask for a free "listening device", usually available at or near the coat check in exchange for your driver license. (The listening device is a headset that receives an infrared broadcast from stage microphones, so don't cover the front of the device with your hand). They're intended for the hearing impaired, but generally only a few are used, so there are usually plenty available.
