Based in Detroit, Michigan -- the Lions is a professional football team which goes back all the way to 1929 however, back then they were known by a different name, in this case the Portsmouth Spartans. The decade of the Great Depression was of help to the Spartans due to the fact that many of the other independent football teams had no choice but to fold, in the meantime the Spartans joined the NFL but given the financial and geographical conditions they could no longer survive in Portsmouth, so the team was purchased and then moved to Detroit, this was an arrangement for the 1934 football season.

The Detroit Lions have had a great deal of accomplishments in pre-Super Bowl championships within the NFL, they earned their first championship in 1935 when they went up against the New York Giants and defeated them 26 to 7 at the University of Detroit Stadium, in 1952 they did it again after overcoming the Cleveland Browns by a margin of 17 to 7, the very next year (1953) they make their appearance once again to battle the title once against the Cleveland Browns, many fans expected the game to turn out exactly as it did one year before however this wasn't the case, the score stayed very very tight and fortunately for the Lions they were able to overcome the Browns by a score of 17 to 16. In 1957 they make their last championship appearance to take on their sworn enemies, the Cleveland Browns, this game was a bit of a disappointment with the lions were able to overcome the Browns at the Briggs Stadium by a margin of 59 to 14.
