Them Crooked Vultures is made up of one of the greatest lineups in rock and roll history. Josh Homme (Queens of the Stone Age) is the band's frontman and lead guitarist while Dave Grohl (Nirvana, Foo Fighters) handles the drums and John Paul Jones (Led Zeppelin) is on base guitar. Alain Johannes has joined the band during live performances as a guitarist.

NME reported in July 2009 that the trio were recording in Los Angeles. The collaboration was first publicly mooted by Grohl in a 2005 interview with Mojo, in which he declared "The next project that I’m trying to initiate involves me on drums, Josh Homme on guitar, and John Paul Jones playing bass. The trio performed their first show together at Metro Chicago in Illinois on August 9, 2009. Music website NME.com announced on August 5 that "UK appearances are being considered for the near future, while an album is also expected to follow too". On August 12, a 14 second clip of the song "Nobody Loves Me and Neither Do I" was posted on the group's YouTube channel. On August 19, they posted a new 33-second video. Their second show was in the Melkweg in Amsterdam on August 19, the day after they appeared as a surprise act at Pukkelpop in Belgium and the day after that they appeared again as a surprise act at A Campingflight to Lowlands Paradise in The Netherlands.
Most rock supergroups don't live up to expectations, but Them Crooked Vultures certainly has a shot at breaking that trend. Some media outlets reported that the group's first album was to be titled "Never Deserved The Future" and would be released on October 23rd, but both the album's title and release date where proven to be fake. We're expecting to hear real news about the band's first album shorly!
